Mental Health, Survival Mode, and Losing Our Rest

🕊️ This is Part 2 of my series: Reflections on Change and Faith

Start with Part 1: How Life Has Changed and Keeps Changing

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how many of us are just surviving. We wake up tired, we rush through our days, and we collapse into bed only to wake up and do it all over again.

I see so many people, including myself, operating in this survival mode. We’re constantly trying to keep up: with bills, work, family needs, social expectations, and the pressure to be “on” all the time. It’s exhausting, physically and mentally.

Mental health has become such a heavy topic. It’s not just something we can ignore anymore. People are struggling in silence and feeling anxious, overwhelmed, burnt out, and alone. We’ve been taught to keep going, to push through, to be strong. But the truth is, sometimes we don’t need to push harder; we need to pause and take care of our souls.

I’ll be honest: there are days I don’t even feel like myself. Days when it feels like my mind is running faster than my heart can keep up. Days when sleep feels impossible, and true rest feels like a distant memory.

We’ve been told that productivity is the measure of our worth. That if we aren’t always “doing,” we’re falling behind. But where does that leave our hearts? Where does that leave our spirit?

God didn’t create us to live in constant survival mode. He invites us to rest — real rest, the kind that reaches deep into our bones and reminds us who we are.

I want to learn to live beyond survival. To find those small pockets of peace throughout the day, to slow down enough to hear God’s gentle voice, and to remind myself that my value isn’t in my output — it’s in simply being His.

If you feel like you’re barely hanging on, I want you to know you’re not alone. You don’t have to keep running on empty. There’s a deeper rest waiting for you — and for me too.

I pray for the courage to step out of the endless cycle of “hustle” and into a life of grace. A life where rest isn’t a luxury but a necessity. A life where my mental health is nurtured, not ignored.

💬 Questions for reflection:

Have you noticed yourself living in survival mode lately? What would it look like for you to truly rest? How can you create space to nurture your mental health and your spirit?

🌿

“So many of us are just surviving. We wake up exhausted, we push through, and we call that living. But God calls us to a deeper rest — one that heals and restores us from the inside out. 🤍

How can you step out of survival mode today?”
